Zach rose an eyebrow. "No, learned nothing, ever. Only learned to read 'n write four years 'go." He shrugged a bit, drawing in a slow breath, and winced slightly even though he didn't look hurt on the outside. "Don't like the streets, but it's all I got.." He didn't know why he was talking to her, his father's words from too many years ago to even remember his face echoing in his head. 'You deserve nothing, Zach. You won't live but a week out there.'
"I lived longer than you," He muttered under his breath.

"Unless you go and try to do something with your life." It came off harsh, but it was true. The only thing holding him back was himself. Gryphon chewed on her lip, turning her head to stare at the reflected light of the moon. She fell quiet, her fingers thumped against her thighs. 'When are you going to learn?' Her grandmother spoke, "Life is what you make it. So quit being a pity party and go do something!" Her grandmother never knew it, but she had gotten through to Gryphon. But it didn't make a difference to her. Gryphon wanted to believe her grandmother, but once her white wings had been stripped, replaced with blackened feathers, she knew nothing could be done for her. If she would have just died with her parents.. Her head shook as she yawned quietly. "You gonna sleep out here or back in the alley?" she asked. It wasn't that she tired, she just wanted to keep the conversation going.

Zach bit his lip, but said nothing. She didn't understand was all.. Right? He shrugged. "I'll sleep wherever I fall 'sleep," He mumbled softly. His stomach growled again and he huffed in agitation, shifting his weight. He touched at his ribcage where ribs were missing.

"Sounds like a good plan," She droned, turning to face him. "You could learn to fish, might solve your hunger problem." Gryphon wondered if he found her annoying, but then again it didn't bother her. He could leave if he wanted, she wasn't keeping him here. Sighing softly, she laid on her stomach, propping her head up with her hands. "So, Zach.. was this your dream? Or did you imagine something greater?"

Zach hesitated thoughtfully, glanced over at her. She didn't seem bothered by how off he was like most were. He shrugged it off. "Didn't dream about being abandoned by 'time I was ten, or living on the streets.. After that I had nothin' else though."

"Well, I didn't ask about what you didn't dream for," Gryphon answered, her feet bouncing behind her head like a little girl. "Since you didn't dream of those things, what did you dream for? To be a star? Or something small, like a business manager?" She carried on in her hand, the list growing with many different jobs. A soft sigh escaped from her lips, her eyes worked their way across the grass.

"I dunno.." He shifted his weight, gazing up at the sky. "Wanted to have a family.. All I ever wanted..." The way he said it was clear proof he had never had a good one. He glance her way. "You..?"

"Why not chase that dream?.. It's not like you can't have it." Gryphon watched as he turned, pausing momentarily at his question. "What every girl wants." She moved, her hands wiping over her face as she tossed over to her back. "I don't see how you sleep on the ground every night. The grass gets itchy.. It's not comfy.. And sometimes, there's dew." Her head was back to resting on her hands, her chest rising and falling as her breaths slowed. "Those blankets you do have can't be that good either."

Zach shrugged. He doubted he would ever fall in love.. "Get used to it after eight years I guess.." He mumbled, watching her toss and turn. He wasn't sure what she meant by her reply. "They aren't, just sheets. It gets cold.."

"I bet!" She huffed, watching the stars with little interest. Her gaze turned to the boy before she turned to her side, propping her head on one hand, the other placed in front of her. "Don't you ever run out of places to sleep if you keep moving all the time? I mean.. there's only so many different places in this town." Gryphon's eyes fixated on his face, her teeth chewing at her lip. "But then again, I guess the old place would become a new place after awhile." She mummbled on.
