Parker sat quietly at a table all alone. Her phone buzzed across the table as 'Mom Calling' popped up across the screen. She sighed, and turned it off. Her friends had left, their game of bowling had ended an hour earlier, but she wasn't ready to go home. Sighing, she thought of the dinner she was passing up, spaghetti, her favorite. Instead, she scooted her chair back and walked over to the food counter.
Her hands dug into her pockets as she waited in line. Her phone began to buzz in her pocket again. Taking it out, she answered, hung up, and turned it on silent. Her mind boiling with anger. "Pizza and a Dr. Pepper," Parker ordered as she came to the front of the line. She pulled out at twenty, and exchanged it for the drink.
"Your pizza should be ready shortly,"
She smiled, and nodded before taking her change, slipping it into her back pocket. Stepping off to the side, she leaned up against the counter, waiting for her pizza. Her eyes scanned the bowling alley, wondering what else she could do to stall going home.

This wasn't Oliver's first choice for a job, but it certainly wasn't his last choice either.
He'd worked at a grocery store prior to this, and he had to admit that working as a bowling alley mechanic had more that he enjoyed than working as a stocking clerk at a grocery story. He was good with mechanics (far better than almost everyone knew, in fact), and thus fixing random things around the bowling alley was his forte.
He just happened to be on his break when he went up to the food counter and ordered a soft pretzel. He wanted something to tide him over until he headed back to his college dorm, where marginally better food awaited. He smiled as his coworker at the counter handed over a hot pretzel covered in salt. As he turned, he nearly ran into someone who was standing right next to the counter. Fortunately, he was able to grab his pretzel (and the cheese sauce that accompanied it) in time to avert disaster, though he realized that an apology was probably owed to the girl he'd nearly run into. "Sorry about that." He smiled sheepishly. "Waiting for your food?"

Her mind concentrated on home, she jumped as she was bumped into. Parker turned quickly to see the culprit before looking to the counter to see that her pizza was almost ready. Her ears caught the last bit of his apology, her eyes glanced back to him. "Yeah, guess I should have chosen a better spot to day dream." She shrugged, not really knowing what to say.
"Excuse me," Parker pardoned herself and weaved past the boy with the pretzel, grabbing her pizza off the counter. She turned back, and looked for a clean table to sit at. Seeing one, she took a couple steps toward it. "Thanks for not covering me in cheese sauce," A smile pulled at her lips as she passed the boy. Looking down at the pizza, she sighed to herself, thinking it would be better to have company than to eat a pizza by herself. "Do you want a piece? I'm here by myself, and I won't eat all of this,"

Oliver shrugged, unsure of what to say either. He really thought it was his fault for not paying attention, but he'd already apologized for that much.
Figuring the conversation was over, he was surprised when he heard the girl thank him for not covering her in cheese sauce. He couldn't help but grin. "Hey, no problem. Can't think of too many people who would want that."
He was even more surprised when she actually invited him to sit down and share her pizza with her. Setting his pretzel down, he sat down across from the girl, ripping off a piece of his pretzel and dipping it into the cheese sauce. "Only if you really don't think you can eat it." He didn't plan on taking the pizza for free either. That didn't seem right, especially with bowling alley food being quite expensive in the first place.

Looking at the medium pizza, she bit her lip before pulling one off and taking a bite. The cheese began to drip from the piece in her mouth and the actual pizza slice. Before it got to long, her finger broke it apart. Her gaze coasted upward, watching him dip his pretzel. She kept quiet, always being told not to talk with food in her mouth. The pizza was pretty good, maybe not the best but it was the bowling alley. "I really only bought it to avoid going home, so if you want a piece you can take it. If not, I'll be here all night, taking my time on eating it." Parker smiled, taking another bite from her pizza.
She watched him for a bit before looking over to the lanes. Her ears caught the sound of the ball dropping onto the lane, and then the hitting of the pins as it reached the end. The chatter of screaming and yelling as someone got a strike. The music blasting through the speakers to beat out all the other noise. The smell wasn't all too great either. "Is it fun working here?" Parker asked, her eyes switching from lane to lane, observing the groups of people.

Oliver continued to munch on his pretzel as he waited for an answer. When it finally came, he frowned. "Why don't you want to go home?" In his first life, family was more important than almost anything else. In this life? Things were a little different. His parents felt like adopted parents rather than his actual parents. Nevertheless, despite all of that awkwardness, Oliver couldn't think of a time where he would actual avoid going home.
He watched as her eyes scanned the alley, then shrugged. "It isn't too bad. It's a job to help pay for college." He ripped off another piece of pretzel and swirled it around in the cheese. "It's better than my last job at the grocery store. I work as a mechanic here, so most of my work is behind the scenes." Oliver grinned. He enjoyed his job for the most part, really. Working with machinery was his favorite thing to do, after all! Though he had higher aspirations once again...

Parker shrugged, as if she didn't really know the answer. Her expression scrunched up, showing a different side. "No one to talk to," She took another bite of her pizza. She knew to keep her secrets hidden, never knew who to trust. Everything stayed bottled in. "Doubt my family's there anyway," A lie, but how could he know? Her eyes switched from the alley to the boy, listening as he talked about his job. Parker had never really been interested in anything, she was still unsure of what she was going to do once graduation came up.
"So, your in high school?" Parker asked, her mind racing through the faces she could remember. None seemed to match his. How could she not have seen him? Her hand pulled another slice free from the trey.

Oliver frowned, but shrugged as well. "That's as good a reason as any, I suppose." He suspected there was more to it than that, just by Parker's reaction, but he decided not to pry. Though her comment about her family not being there made Oliver inclined to think that it had something to do with her family. Either they were there and she wanted to avoid them...or they weren't there and usually weren't there. Either way, it wasn't particularly pleasant.
Oliver shook his head before swallowing his latest mouthful of pretzel. "Second year of college, actually." Oliver informed her, which would explain why Parker hadn't seen him around school. "You?"

Three small bites were missing from the pizza in her hand. Usually, she ate much faster, but she was too lost in her own mind to really care about the food. Her mom would always say it was a surprise she wasn't fat. Parker sighed, looking from the pizza to the boy. "I'm a senior at the wonderful high school.." She smiled, putting emphasis on the word wonderful. It wasn't a horrible place for her, she did, after all, make many friends. It was just the matter of figuring out who were real friends.
The cheese began to drip from the side of the pizza, her fingers moving it every once and awhile, trying not to make a mess. Her mind went to college, which she would be going into next fall with Tk. It seemed like Tk had it all figured out, but Parker was still terribly worried. Apparently, they were suppose to get an apartment soon, but who knew how that would go.

Oliver couldn't help but grin. "I think that's how most students feel about high school. College is a little better, but you do still have to get your core classes out of the way." Oliver was lucky in that a few of his classes were advanced, meaning that he could skip some of the core introductory classes and jump into the higher up classes. Colleges still had their requirements, though, like high school, which meant that Oliver was just finishing up the last couple of core classes.
Watching Parker eat, Oliver did have to note that her pizza looked pretty good. However, he opted to focus on his pretzel. "What are you thinking of doing after high school?" That was on every senior's mind, as far as Oliver knew, so he figured this would be a good question to ask.
