Jayson swallowed. "It's not your fault..." He whispered. And then Caine said he was going to leave. Despute everything screaming that none of this was possible, this looked and sounded like Caine and nobody else.
He grabbed his arm. "Wait-...don't leave I'm sorry....If you're-...if you are my brother, I can't lose you again. Just prove it..." He swallowed. "It was a fucking drunk on the road...me and you in the car...I didn't see the guy swerve into the lane and-...." He shiddered, dropping his hand, working his jaw to hide its trembling as he stared down at the ground, the only way hefound he could try and hide his pain.

Caine spun on his feet when Jayce grabbed his arm. It surprised him, what was Jayce about to do? And then he told Caine not to leave. Caine sighed. At least he stood a chance of hopefully proving to Jayce that he wasn't lying. "I wish I knew how to prove." Caine paused, he remembered something, "Mom's name is Denise Flateon Johnson. It's been a little bit over a year since I died." It wasn't much, but it's what he had.
Caine scratched his head, hoping the blurry pictures of he night would go away. "We were headed home from somewhere.. I died when the cars crashed.. Jayce, I'm so glad you healed. It's good you didn't die too. That caused you a lot of pain..but why? It wasn't your fault."

"But I should have been able to save you...." He whispered brokenly. "A fuckin' year Caine...." He looked up, eyes glimmering with tears he refused to let fall. That just wasn't who he was. "They're married now you know, mom and dad..." He ran a hand through his hair, resting his shoulder against the chain of the swing, gazing distantly across the small playground.
He picked absently at a nail. "Changed my last name but I fought them in doing so..." He shrugged mutely. "They bring you up a lot when I get in trouble and....honestly it used to be one of the reasons..just to here your name." He scoffed, tears rolling gently down his cheeks. "Fucking stupid I know.." Rubbing at his face, a hand fisted around the chains of the swing, knuckles growing white. "I really screwed shit up without you Caine."

"No it wasn't your fault. You couldn't have saved me, I was already dead." Caine couldn't believe his brother felt this way. Why hadn't he tried harder to find Jayce? Why didn't he care? But he did care, he knew he cared. He just didn't know how to find Jayce or even what Jayce would do. "They're married.." He had missed their wedding.
Caine felt as if he had let Jayce down. The boy seemed so distruaght. He remembered how close they were. Jayce was his best friend. And then it had ended , and Jayce blammed himself? "Why would they do that? Why would you let yourself screw up?" Caine noticed that came out wrong, but it angered him that Jayce would just drop everything because of the wreck. "I'm sorry.. I'm just.. I feel horrible.."

Jayson chewed on his lip, careful of the stud there. "I dunno..." He admitted quietly. "Got real rough for awhile, ended up in juvie." He shrugged, elbows on his knees as he leaned forward, looking around.
But he tried to change the subject. "Yiu prob'ly don't remember Cory, we adopted him only a month efore the accident." Scratching at his head he glanced up at his brother, still so, so confused...

Caine sat down on the swing beside Jayce. Caine's feet pushed him back and forth slowly as he looked out across the darkened playground. "Damn.." He mummbled. His fingers ruffled his air before returning to the chain. He wanted to go see them all, but what if they had the same reaction as Jayce? He couldn't stand that. It was probably better for them not to know.. but what would Jayce do?
Caine looked up at the mention of another boy. "Corey? No.. I don't.. I was told my memory could come back slowly.. but I'm still not sure about that." He looked down at the burned out blunt, wondering how long Jayce had been smoking. "Did I know about that before I died?" He asked, nodding towards the blunt.

Jayson nodded expectantly about the reaction towards mention of Cory, but shrugged when asked about the smoking. "Dunno..." He mumbled. "I mean, I guess I did it occasionally yeah depending on who I was hanging out with. But now-...." He let out a slow breath, shaking his head, ashamed. Sure it wasn't the strongest drug, but he did smoke a lot, Cory did too but only at parties or when they were hanging out. Neither was supposed to, and they were in so much trouble if an whenever they got caught.
"I've done other crud too..." He admitted. He'd had his share of narcotics and alcohol, of petty crimes and fights.

His lips parted in a yawn as he looked up to the starry night. It was chilly outside, but if this was the moment he got to spend with Jayce it was worth it. He wondered if everything would be different if he hadn't died. If they would have never been in a wreck. It was as if his death had ruined something. His parents yelling at Jayce.. it wasn't like that when he was alive. Him and Jayce had done just about everything together. Some memories were revealing themselves, and it seemed as if Caine had the perfect life before. Was this another chance to be close to his brother again?
He looked over at Jayce, wondering what was going through the boy's head. Caine didn't want to go further into the things Jayce had done. "How are.. mom and dad?" He asked slowly. He wondered if everything was okay at the house. If everything was running smoothly, or if it was horrible. He prayed that it was good. He didn't want to be the reason everything fell apart, but his mom and dad had gotten married. That must mean something. "How old is Corey? Do ya'll get alone?"

"They're good.." He murmured softly. "Happy together, just decided to make it forever.." Little did he know, their forever was far less than Caine's now. He had begun to swing slowly, almost lazily, again. "Cory's ah, same age as me. Almost eighteen." He nodded faintly, cracking his knuckles, and hesitated before reaching in his pocket for cigarettes or a lighter.
Sighing he gazed up at the darkened sky thoughtfully. "everyone seems so happy," He admitted. "They talk about you yeah, but...they've actually learned to live with it in life you know?" He took a drag on the cancer stick, letting it out slowly. "Except me apparently."

Caine nodded, glad they were happy. He felt bad though, knowing Jayce was still hurt. "You and Corey get along?" He asked, hoping they did. It was like he had been gone longer than a year. His parents now married, and they had adopted a new boy, even though the boy was adopted before Caine had died. It just seemed like several years had passed insead of one.
He looked over at Jayce, watching him light a cigarette. He yawned, quietly, covering his mouth with one of his hands. "Well, I'm here.. now. And I can't die again." He choked out a laugh, trying to lessen the tention. It didn't seem as if it was working though.
