Charlotte sat down on the sofa, watching the TV with little interest. "No. I can't find my mommy and daddy. And no one wants to be my mommy or daddy. So I just stay out by the lake.." She mumbled, hugging her doll tightly. She wandered off in the kitchen, trying to climb up the counter to see what he was doing. She stood on her tip toes, tipping her head up.
"What's that?" She asked, looking up at him. She jumped up, trying to see better. She had never remembered being in a kitchen before. "You're not my daddy, are you?" She asked him, starting to lose hope she would never have parents.

Devon watched her in confusion. He had two dads, couldn't imagine not. "Oh..." Watching her walk away, he son found more interest in the television instead.
Chrystian looked down at her, smiling faintly. "No. I'm making breakfast." She was dead, he knew, but she could be touched. He wondered if she got hungry or not, turning back to what he was doing.

She watched him a minute longer, then grew bored. She didn't even know what breakfast was. She walked over to the fridge, playing with the magnets before she grew bored of that too. She walked back over to Devon, climbing into his lap. She curled up, hugging her doll close as she laid her head on his chest. She pulled a strand of her hair over her shoulder, playing with it for a minute.
"I gotta go." She said, looking towards the door. She chewed on her lip, wondering if she wanted to go out into the cold. But she knew she had to. She couldn't stay here. She slid out of his lap, her feet touching the floor. She walked over to the door, opened it, then closed it again before she started down the lawn, hugging her doll close.

Devon hugged her close whe. She came back. So when she got up again, his eyebrows furrowed. He stood. "Dev, leave her be." Blue eyes grew defiant and he opened the door, not following, just watching her go. "Where you goin'?" He questioned, tilting his head some.
"Devon, breakfast?" He waved his hand at Chrystian in an agitated manner.

"Back to the lake." She said, bending down to pick a flower. She started walking again, her little legs not walking as fast as everyone else's might. "Maybe my mommy and daddy will find me." She said, even if she wasn't hopeful. She didn't think her mommy and daddy wanted her anymore. That's why they weren't there, right? She hugged her doll close, putting the flower into the top of it's dress.

Devon frowned in disappointment, sitting down in the doorway. "Oh..bye, then.." He mumbled, wondering if she would ever come back. He stood obediently as Chrystian pulled him gently to his feet, not much better off than the six year old girl herself. "She's dead, Devon..." He insisted softly, closing the door and sitting him down at the table, pushing a plate of bacon and eggs his way.
