"Oh no, it's not that big of deal." She shrugged it off and watched as they moved about. It was a weird feeling to be standing in the middle of a strangers apartment. The 'don't talk to strangers' rule from elementry school floated into her head, almost making her miss what the man said next. Not fond of new people? Totally understandable. "I get that.. New people aren't always the nicest. Neither are old peo-" She stopped as she realized what she said.
"Not old people.. I mean old friends.. Sorry." Tk stepped forward and over to the couch, but instead of sitting down she leaned against it to where she could see both Nash and his dad. She didn't understand what Nash signed, and looked toward the ground to not get further invovled. How much more could she screw up? Her hand went to her forehead, hoping her awkwardness would fade, or at least a little bit of it. She was a little bit scared, but with a pop of her knuckles it seemed to calm her nerves. Unsure of what to say next, she bit her tongue not wanting to say something stupid again.

"He loves getting fruit. The lady at the stand always give him a few grapes for walking down." He smiled up at the girl, and Nash came back with a jacket on.
'What am I getting?' He signed, and his dad signed something back, then he was out the door.
"Do you go to school with Nash?" He asked, wondering exactly why the boy had brought a girl home. He didn't think he liked girls. Or guys either, to be fair. The boy just didn't seem like a people person. Probably because he was teased.
"He tends to keep away. From people. In general." He didn't know how much the boy had told her about his ex wife, so he didn't push the issue. If Nash wanted to tell her, Nash would tell her.

"Uh no," She laughed innocently, "I dropped out of highschool and got my GED. I signed up for college in the fall." Taaron looked away from the man, wondering what smart remark he would make about her dropping out. There was always one, and she expected it from every person she ran into. "We bumped into each other on the street. I asked if he wanted a bag from the smoothie shop, because that's where I was headed, and he invited me over."
"Because of his hearing?" She questioned, wondering why someone would advoid people because they couldn't hear. Taaron pulled her hair over to the side, puting a rubber band on it loosely below her ear. Shoving her hands into her jacket pocket, she looked the man over, wondering just what there was to talk about. "I'm not used to talking much..my mind is kinda blank.." It was the truth, and those were the only words that seemed to roll off her lips.

"Well, that's good you're going back to school. I was pulled out. The army needed soldiers. I ended up losing my legs to it. If I had a choice, I would have stayed in school. Carry on your schooling. It's a good thing." He smiled over at her.
"Well, that and he doesn't trust people very much. He'll invite you to his house, but he won't take anything you give him. My ex wife poisoned him; made him lose most of his hearing and caused severe damage to his lungs. So he tries to avoid taking food or drinks from anyone. I like talking, though. Even if it's just to Nash. He tries to read your lips, but sometimes he gets confused. Poor boy." He looked up as the boy came back with a bag.
"G-gr..apes.." He managed, holding out his hand with a smile. He put one into his mouth, then walked over to the counter, setting the things onto it.
"Told you he loves grapes." His dad said with a smile, wheeling his way into the kitchen. "Let's see. He's got strawberries and bananas and blueberries and cherries. Cherries for you?" He looked over at the boy and he nodded, signing something with his hand full of grapes.
"Oh, cherries for the ice cream. Okay. Ice cream?" He looked over at Nash, and he walked over to the freezer, pulling out the ice cream, then the milk. "What would you like, dear?" His dad asked Taaron.

She was taken back by the story, her eyes casting down to the floor as Nash walked back into the apartment. She didn't say another word, only walking over to the counter lightly to look at the fruit. It smelled fresh, and was a more satisfying smell than smoke. Her mind kept dancing back to the thought of poison. How could a mother do that? And it made her jump to thinking of her dad. Some people.. Tk didn't look up as the man talked to his son, lost in her own thoughts. She didn't understand the choices some people made, which only made her want to advoid them more. Not knowing what someone could do was a creepy thought, and her guard was always up.
Her arms crossed below her chest, taking a more definsive postion like she was scared again even though that wasn't the case. "A strawberry smoothie, please." She felt uncomfortable with saying it. She almost felt like she was using the family for a smoothie, and she hated coming off that way. At least she had managed to keep her cool. The man and his son seemed nice enough though. Her eyes spotted a notebook and pen, and she wrote something across it before sliding it down the counter in Nash's direction, 'What do you study in school?'. Taaron had picked her major in the chemistry field.

Nash watched his dad start to make her smoothie when he caught out of the corner of his eye her sliding him the notebook. He took the pen in his hand that wasn't holding the grapes and thought that being ambidextrous came in handy sometimes. 'Psychology, Sociology, and Human Behavior.' He wrote, then slid it back to her. His dad handed her the smoothie, and Nash leaned across the table. He pointed to the cherries, then the ice cream. His dad smiled, and began to make Nash's, and soon handed it to him. He thanked him, then took a sip of it.
"Child likes the strangest things." His dad said, scooping a bit of the ice cream into a bowl for himself. He glanced over at the notebook, and smiled. "He's taking band, too. Plays on the drum line."

"Thank you." Taaron smiled graciously and took the smoothie. She sipped on it, before looking down at the notebook. Human Behavior. Odd, but if it was what he liked then that was pretty cool. Trying to understand why humans acted the way they did would be pretty interesting. She smiled when his dad talked about Nash eating strange things. "This is great, better then the smoothie shop."
"I'm pretty good at drums. I only know one beat, but I play the beat amazing." Her mood was begining to lighten, her face seemingly brighter as she grew more relaxed. Her hand gravited back toward the writing pad, 'I'm goin to study in the chemistry field this fall', Taaron slid the note pad back and looked down into the smoothie. He probably didn't care, but it didn't bother her. She took a few more sips from the strawberry flavored smoothie, letting the taste rest on her taste buds before swallowing. Her tongue tracing the bottom of her lip to get the run away smoothie. "Where did you go when you were in the army?" Tk asked, going back to what the man had told her earlier.

His dad smiled at the compliment, and Nash looked down at the piece of paper. He carefully wrote in the room at the bottom of the page. 'Waste brings want' his step father always told him.
'That's really cool. I could never understand any of that.' He wrote before pushing it back. He pulled himself up on the stool, looking at them as they talked. He remembered a time when he would do this exact same thing, except he was much smaller, and his parents were still married.
"I was in Vietnam. After the big war. And some guy was trying to loot our dead soldiers we were guarding and I said I was going to open fire and he blew my legs off." He shrugged as if it were nothing.

Tk flipped he page over writing, 'It's the only thing I ever liked in school' She smiled sliding it back to Nash before looking over to his dad. Saddness washed over her face. She wasn't good with gorey things. It creeped her out. Her eyes casted to the floor, not even being able to imagine the pain. And he acted as though it was nothing. "Oh, I'm sorry.. That's reallyy brave.." was all she managed to say.
Her smoothie was almost to the bottom, and she quickly finished it off, placing it on the counter. She leaned up against the counter, looking out into the living room. "Your apartment is really nice.." she commented. She, herself, lived in a small apartment with her mom, but it was a little more hectic with a dog.

Nash wrote under her in his small writing. 'I was never any good at anything. The teachers didn't help with anything, so it made learning hard.' He pushed it back, wondering what the two were talking about.
"Thanks. It's not much, but Nash likes it. Better than his mom's house. She lives in a big mansion. Has three girls with her husband. Nash thinks they're all annoying." He laughed a bit. Nash wasn't much on girls, or people in general, once you got right down to it. "He's a bit of a loner. It's a surprise he talks to anyone at all. He has terrible trust issues. All the counseling never helped him. He just goes about what happened in his own way."
