Caine nodded and followed her willingly out the library and to her car. He opened the door and slid into the passengers seat. He sat quietly as Dallas called someone on the phone. Blurred yelling and then a click ended the conversation. Caine looked over at Dallas and took her free hand in his. It was all he could do. "You do have an apartment." His voice was caring, but at the same time monotone. He squeezed her hand in his as they pulled up to a red light.
Caine held her hand, caring-ly, all the way to the apartment before slipping from the passenger's seat and out the door. He walked over to the driver's side, waiting for Dallas to shut off the car before opening her door. Once again, he took her hand to help her out of the car. His eyes caught hers and he gave a quick smile, before letting her hand fall from his. "Lead the way." Caine walked by Dallas's side, but stood behind her a bit so any door-way they came across wouldn't be an awkward passing through.
When they came to the door of the apartment, Caine ran his fingers through his hair. "Are you sure you don't want to stay here?" He asked quietly as he watched her slip the key into the lock. He would find another place to stay if he had to, he didn't mind.

She heard him ask if she was sure she didn't want to stay there. "I can't. I got Christy and Devon to look after." She said, flipping on the light. She looked around at the already fixed up apartment, and thought that if anyone were to walk in, they would think it was being lived in.
"We can run to the.. store.." She trailed off, turning around and seeing him. She couldn't deny the butterflies she had in her stomach. She had only ever gotten butterflies around Devon, but she had never admitted it. And she probably never would. "... And get you food." She finished after a moment, walking over to the kitchen. She stuck her hand in the fridge, and realized it was on.
She looked back at him, wondering what was going though his mind. She bit her lip, running her hands down her skirt. She didn't know what to say, her brain was just.. dead.

Caine walked into the apartment behind Dallas. He looked around at the neatly placed furniture, it still seemed empty though. He looked around, wondering if he would even sleep tonight. The tiredness had been freed fro his body, and he was now alert. He cautiously walked around the living room, investigating the place he would be staying tonight, before walking over to Dallas, who now stood in the kitchen. He smiled as she worked her way around the kitchen. "Oh, it's fine. I'm not hungry."
His hand worked through his hair again as Dallas looked back at him. "But if you are, you can go home. I'll be fine." Caine paused before opening his mouth to speak, but closed it shifting his jaw, contemplating what he was saying. "Or you could stay here and we could talk more.. Well you could talk, I could listen." Caine laughed as he walked around the counter, closer to Dallas. "Either is fine with me." He gave a soft smile and leaned up against the counter.

She shook her head, not one to eat much. Her eyes were glued to his, and when he stepped closer, she felt the urge to step back, away from him. He could touch her now he was so close. She almost felt like she was caught between him and Devon, even though she knew Devon could never see her as anything other than his guardian. She ran her hand up and down her jacket sleeve, mentally seeing the burns there, and wanting so bad to hide them.
"I.. don't know.. I don't have much to talk about." She mumbled, looking up at him. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't think of anything to say. She bit her lip, her eyes meeting his. "I can't think of anything.."

Caine laughed softly to himself and watched her reaction to him moving closer. Yawning, he stretched his arms out, before turning and walking back into the living room. As he yawn ceased, he sat down on the couch and leaned back, tilting his head back to where Dallas was upside down. Soon it hurt his eyes and he stretched forward, repositioning his seating arrangement. Caine knew he wouldn't be going to bed soon, but wouldn't keep Dallas here if she didn't want to be.
"Well, I won't make you stay and sit in awkward silence." Caine's mind ran through many questions, but he stuffed them away and propped his arm on the side of the couch. "The pizza is probably cold anyway. And Christy probably misses you." He bit on the inside of his cheek, and looked back at Dallas.

She pulled herself up on the counter, looking over at him. "No, she's with her brother so I'm pretty sure she's having fun.." She said quietly. "When her brother's boyfriend goes to work, they either go to my house or uhm.. go back to Deacon's." She tapped on the counter, looking down at the toes of her shoes.
"And I don't care if the pizza is cold. I don't feel like going home, really.. I will though, in a little while.. Devon's probably hiding from Dru in my room or something.." She said quietly, running her hands down her skirt. She pulled it down a little, trying to cover her knees and the burns on them. "And I usually have to beat Deacon home before Christy goes up and tries to hug him." She slid off the counter, rounding the corner to the bathroom to fix her hair before walking back out.

Caine stayed silent as Dallas talked, not sure of what to say. He watched as she walked down the hall, and after a minutes she came back. "You have one giant family." He finally managed to get out. He repositioned himself to where he was facing Dallas, instead of the wall. The room was quiet, but noises could be heard through the thin walls from the other apartments next door. Caine drummed his fingers against his legs like a drum, trying to pass the time, hoping something would come to his mind.
"Who's Devon?" He figured he had already asked about everyone else, what was the harm in asking about him. Once the question slipped from his lips, he almost regretted it. He flipped his hair from his face in one slick movement. His eyes landed on Dallas as he waited for a reply. They never wondered either. Caine had figured, if the walls were bare, stare at something that will keep you awake, and Dallas seemed to keep him awake.

She sat down on the coffee table across from him, pulling her skirt down over her knees. "His family was abusing him, so me and Dusk are taking care of him." She tapped her fingers on her legs, looking down at her shoes. "I know it's weird like.. always trying to take care of everyone else but I felt really bad for him." She looked up at him, chewing on her lip a bit. She moved so she was sitting beside him, pulling her legs up underneath her.
"I just don't want anyone to have to be hurt or not have a place to sleep and stuff.."

His arm stretched across the back of the couch as he sank down into cushion. "It's not weird." Caine's voice was gentle and his face was bright as he listened to Dallas talk. His darkened eyes watched as she moved and then landed on her eyes, staying there, catching every swirl that was with-held in the color of her eyes. He chewed on the inside of his cheek, watching the muscles in Dallas's face change. "Well being an Angel fits you then." Caine smiled.
He watched as a bang fell across her eyes, his hand instinctively and carefully brushed the loose bang behind her ear, before returning to his lap. "Did you become an angel because you died in the fire?" Caine stopped and began to curse in his hand. "You don't have to explain that or anything.. We can just forget I asked that.." He paused, telling himself to shut up and stop talking in his head.

She blushed, feeling his fingers brush against her forehead. Her heart pounded a little harder, and she laid her head down on the back of the couch, pulling his hand into her lap.
"Yeah.. We were taking a nap and somehow the curtain caught on fire. Dusk never told me why or how.. And he pulled me over to the corner of the room and wrapped his arms around me and we died there, listening to our mom scream for us from upstairs.. But the smoke got so thick we couldn't even see. Or breathe.." She played with his fingers, picking one up and letting it thump back on her skirt. "But somehow Dru didn't die.."
