Devon stirred as he was tucked in. He yawned sleepily, hugging his blankets close before rolling onto his side.

Zander reached over to him, gently running his fingers through Devon's hair. He hoped it at least comforted the boy a bit. He hated seeing him so hurt and confused. His fingers slipped slowly through the boy's dark locks, his heart pounding. He always felt like he was dealing with a dangerous animal- they were gentle, but unpredictable. Nature was nature.

Devon hummed softly, reaching up to rub at an eye and peer sleepily at Zander. He smiled faintly, reaching up to touch Zander's face. He winced at the stretch it caused on his wounds.

Zander smiled, leaning down to kiss his cheek gently. He laid his head down beside the boy, closing his eyes. "Go back to sleep. I'm not going to go anywhere." He said quietly. He gently rested his hand on Devon's chest, feeling his heart beat.

Devon played with his hair a moment longer, then reached for his stomach and chest as he closed his eyes again sleepily and once more drifted off. He was exhausted, still catching up on that blood loss.

Zander didn't move an inch. Instead he lay there, thinking over a million things he probably shouldn't have cared in the slightest about. But he couldn't help it. He felt awful that Devon was here, that he couldn't fix it.

Devon stirred after awhile, whimpering and reaching out instinctively, grabbing for Zander's shirt in an attempt to pull him close.

Zander looked over, raising his head slowly. He carefully climbed beside him into the bed, wrapping his arms around the boy. "Shh." He breathed. He slowly ran his hand through the boy's hair again in an attempt to calm him.

Devon grabbed at him desperately, hugging him tight. He buried his face against Zander's chest and relaxed almost instantly.

Zander wrapped his arms tightly around him, hugging him close. He was relieved when he finally relaxed. He kissed the boy's head, closing his eyes again.
